Garcia\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\nThe AZ Mirror<\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><span data-wahfont=\"15\">Tony Valdovinos is a \u201cDreamer\u201d who sees the world as it is, not as he thinks it should be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><span data-wahfont=\"15\">It\u2019s a personal philosophy that\u2019s served him well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><span data-wahfont=\"15\">That was the biggest takeaway for me after attending a recent performance of\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-wahfont=\"15\">\u00a1Americano!<\/span><\/i><span data-wahfont=\"15\">, a new musical based on his life story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><i><span data-wahfont=\"15\">(Editor\u2019s note: The author is serving as a creative consultant on\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-wahfont=\"15\">\u00a1Americano!.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><span data-wahfont=\"15\">It\u2019s is an extraordinary tale, despite Valdovinos\u2019 somewhat ordinary beginnings as one of millions of young undocumented immigrants, known as Dreamers, brought to the United States in recent decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><span data-wahfont=\"15\">Valdovinos was two when his parents brought him to Arizona. Like most immigrant families, the family came in search of a better life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><span data-wahfont=\"15\">Beyond the daily uncertainty of living in the U.S. illegally, life for the Valdovinos family was better, and largely uneventful, until the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-wahfont=\"15\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azmirror.com\/2020\/02\/19\/tony-valdovinos-dreamer-americano-musical-uncertain-end\/\"><em>Read the full story here!<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By James E.
