Acclaimed musicians band together for unique sound of the show<\/em><\/p>\n

(PHOENIX)<\/span><\/strong> \u2014 Americano!<\/span><\/b><\/em> \u2014\u00a0a groundbreaking new musical \u2014 has set a state box office record for an original musical production and is getting rave reviews for its uplifting message of a DREAMer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Compelling original music, presented live, is a major strength of the show fostering Americano!\u2019s<\/span><\/b><\/em> unprecedented success for an original production in Arizona.\u00a0The show\u2019s composer is award winning singer, songwriter Carrie Rodriguez<\/span><\/strong> from Austin, Texas. Americano!\u2019s<\/span><\/b><\/em> arranger is, Sergio Mendoza,<\/span><\/strong> from the border town of Nogales and a member of the Grammy nominated band \u2018<\/span><\/em>Calexico.<\/span><\/p>\n

A 9-member band has played an integral role in the production and its inspiring music, since the run began on January 29th<\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Meet The Band<\/span><\/strong> event will be held immediately after the show on Wednesday, February 19th<\/sup> <\/span><\/strong>to honor the musicians\u2019 talents and hard work. The event will also give fans seeing the show at The Phoenix Theatre Company<\/span><\/strong> a chance to meet and chat with the notable musicians who have helped bring Americano!\u2019s<\/span><\/b><\/em> story to life.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so proud of the music and message this show is bringing to highlight DREAMers and what they mean to our community and our country,\u201d said Sergio Mendoza. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Phoenix Theatre Company<\/span><\/strong> has also announced the addition of a special Sunday night show <\/span><\/strong>on February 23<\/span><\/strong> that will culminate Americano!\u2019s<\/span><\/strong> record-setting run. The new 7:30 p.m. show was added after Americano!<\/span><\/strong> broke the state box office record for a musical production on February 13th and demand for tickets has continued to increase.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Jonathan Ivie \u2014 Musical Director, Conductor and Keyboard<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Jivie, formally known as Jonathan Ivie (Music Director\/Conductor\/Keys) began rocking the piano onstage in Grease at the age of 15. Since then, he has made a life in music.\u00a0 A few highlights: conducted and played onstage on Broadway (\u201cRock of Ages\u201d-Helen Hayes Theatre), music director and arranger for the world premiere of the original rock musical \u201cA Wall Apart\u201d (Salt Lake City, composer Graham Russell of \u2018Air Supply\u2019), guest performer with the St. Louis Symphony, music director\/keys for artists such as Jason Alexander, Constantine Maroulis, & The Company Men. The EPIC Players, a neurodiverse theatre company in NYC, are a core part of his passion to promote inclusion on and off stage. Based in Hell\u2019s Kitchen, NYC, Jivie maintains a busy schedule as a music director, vocal coach, accompanist, arranger, solo pianist, and keyboardist for many groups spanning a diverse range of musical genres and communities. xoxo to Katie & Fred!<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sergio Mendoza<\/span><\/strong> \u2014 Musical Arranger, Keyboard, Guitar, Vibs, Accordion<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sergio Mendoza is a singer, guitarist and Latin music pioneer. Mendoza was born in the Arizona border town of Nogales. He was raised in Nogales, Sonora and now lives in Tucson. He is the founder of Orkesta Mendoza, a band in Tucson that melds Indie Rock with Latin music. Mendoza is also a member of the Grammy nominated band Calexico. Calexico was nominated for two 2020 Grammy\u2019s with Iron & Wine.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Marco Rosano \u2014 Musical Arranger, Reeds<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Marco Rosano is an accomplished clarinet and saxophone player as well as a versatile multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer. He has performed and recorded with a variety of artists including Sergio Mendoza, Calexico, Depedro, Mexican Institute of Sound, WildcatJazz and KT Tunstall.\u00a0He has played woodwinds for theater productions including Anything Goes<\/span><\/em>, Westside Story<\/span><\/em>, Woodie Guthrie’s American Song<\/span><\/em> and Chicago<\/span><\/em>. He has played with the Gene Krupa and Tommy Dorsey Orchestras.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Marco also currently plays baritone sax, clarinet and accordion with the mambo and cumbia band Orkesta Mendoza and plays traditional and original tango music with his own band, Rosano Tango.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0James Peters \u2014 Drums<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

James Anthony Peters has been a percussionist and drummer for Orkestra Mendoza, Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, The Jons and The Resonars. He is from Nogales, Arizona.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sean Rogers \u2014 Bass<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sean Rogers plays double \/ upright bass for Orkestra Mendoza. <\/span><\/strong>He also plays electric bass. Rogers has also played with <\/span>Calexico, Golden Boots, Na\u00efm Amor and the Silver Thread Trio.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Brian Lopez \u2014 Guitar<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Brian Lopez is a classically trained guitarist who is a member of Orkestra Mendoza. The Tucson native also played with the psychedelic rock band Mostly Bears. Lopez has also performed with Calexico and Giant Sand.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Quetzal Guerrero \u2014 Percussions, Violin<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Quetzal Guerrero studied violin at the famous International Academy of the <\/span>Suzuki Method<\/span><\/a><\/span>, in <\/span>Matsumoto<\/span><\/a><\/span>, Japan, and the Conservatorio Pernambucano de Musica in <\/span>Recife<\/span><\/a><\/span>, Brazil. He has played with Orkestra Mendoza. He has also performed and collaborated with Tito Puente, Lalo Guerrero, Cristian Castro, Jorge Santana and Acoustic Alchemy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Saul Millan \u2014 Trombone<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Saul Millan has been part of the Tucson Jazz Institute. At age 18, Millan performed at the Fullerton Jazz Festival, Next Generation Jazz Festival and the prestigious Essentially Ellington in New York City. He is currently studying jazz studies at the University of Arizona. Millan has performed with various groups including Ozomatli, La Santa Cecilia, Mexiressey, and The Big Band Express. Currently Millan is a member of Orkesta Mendoza and Vox Urbana.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kevin Tangey \u2014 Trumpet<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Kevin Tangey has played with Bad Cactus Brass Band, The Young Sounds of Arizona, Sugar Thieves and <\/span>Lymbyc Systym. He has been active in Tucson and Phoenix music scenes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Beth Goodfellow \u2014 Special Drummer<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Beth Goodfellow plays drums for singer songwriter Sam Beam\u2019s \u2018Iron & Wine\u2019. She also performed with the Americano!<\/span><\/b><\/em> band during a recent performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Americano!<\/span><\/b><\/em> is an original production of The Phoenix Theatre Company<\/span><\/strong>. Tony Award-winning producer Ken Davenport is the show\u2019s Executive Producer. Americano!\u2019s<\/span><\/b><\/em> director is Phoenix Theatre Producing Artistic Director Michael Barnard, who also co-wrote the piece with Jonathan Rosenberg<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The show is running through February 23 and we will have a \u201829 Hour Read\u2019 performance in New York in April. Americano!<\/span><\/b><\/em> is a centerpiece of The Phoenix Theatre Company<\/span><\/strong>\u2019s 100th<\/sup> Anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Americano!<\/span><\/b><\/em> has set a new state box office record for a musical production. That record was set after the February 13 show. The production has also exceeded its ambitious sales goals, according to The Phoenix Theatre Company<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

A concept album featuring 9 of Americano!\u2019s<\/span><\/b><\/em> original songs was released on January 24. A portion of proceeds from that album go to the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund. Music included in Americano!<\/span><\/b><\/em> is now available on CD and on digital platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n
